PORT MATILDA – The Philipsburg-based state police were dispatched Saturday night to the scene of a burning Chevrolet Cavalier, which may be connected to a recent burglary at the Lykens Market in Port Matilda Borough, Centre County.
According to the report, state police responded to a vehicle fire south of Port Matilda on the old state Route 220. The abandoned 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier found may have been used in the burglary of Lykens Market at 3 a.m. Friday, police said.
Police suspect that two teen-aged males, both of Tyrone, threw a rock through the front door to gain entry to the convenience store. Once inside they removed tobacco products and other items.
“They’re thought to have fled the scene in the Cavalier,” police said, which was believed to have been stolen earlier from the Tyrone area.
Police said there are surveillance video from three, different locations as well as a number of eye witnesses, which appear to tie the suspects to the incidences.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
