Joseph A. Romeo, 73, of Treasure Lake died Thursday at the DuBois Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born April 1, 1937 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Mittiga) Romeo. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.
In addition, he served as a ranger at the Treasure Lake golf courses. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with his family.
Mr. Romeo was a lifelong resident of DuBois and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1954. He served four years in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years and was the postmaster in Reynoldsville from 1979 – 1985 and then in DuBois from 1985 until his retirement in 2000.
Mr. Romeo was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the National League of Postmasters, serving as president of the Pennsylvania Branch from 1990 – 1996.
He married Linda (Kirkland) Romeo on Aug. 26, 1967. She survives.
He’s also survived by two sons, Tony (Davina) Romeo of Winston-Salem, NC and Dr. Michael Romeo of Reading; two grandsons, Aidan Romeo and Oliver Romeo of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Mildred (Ike) Gearhart and one brother, Francis Romeo, both of DuBois.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Pohe.
Friends will be received on from 10 – 10:45 a.m. Monday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, DuBois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.
