Clearfield County Commissioner John Sobel announced his bid for re-election to another term. He is a resident of Lawrence Township where he resides with his daughter, Johnna, who is a freshman at Clarion University.
Sobel graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1971 as Valedictorian; summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1975 and from Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 1979. He is currently a partner in the local law firm of Sobel and Collins, where he has represented Benezette Township in Elk County, Burnside Borough, Chester Hill Borough, Covington Township, Knox Township, Girard Township, Graham Township, Morris Township, Mahaffey Borough and Osceola Mills Borough during his 32-year career.
Sobel said, “It has been an honor to represent the citizens of Clearfield County during my initial term in office. My proudest moment came when I was able to reduce taxes by 2.5 mills at the end of 2010 and still maintain the level of services set by the previous board of commissioners.
“Any concerns a tax reduction has harmed Clearfield County financially is misplaced. The county’s finances are strong and we will continue, as always, to pay the bills on time. It’s very simple. All that is necessary is the application of common-sense fiscal management and a policy whereby our taxpayers come first.”
Sobel, who chose not to take a pay raise, believes that Clearfield County is once again on the threshold of becoming an energy producer for the world. “This development, combined with environmental consciousness, will make Clearfield County of the 21st Century a great place to live, work and raise our families. I humbly ask for your support for another term.”
