CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced Clearfield County’s Fugitive of the Week for the week of March 7, 2011. Shaw identified the Fugitive as William J. Matthews, age 25, of Latrobe. Shaw stated that Matthews is wanted for failure to appear at criminal call on July 15, 2010.
On Sept. 22, 2009, Officer Peter Largey of the Sandy Township Police Department, filed a criminal complaint charging Williams with: 1) driving under the influence, M; and 2) reckless driving, S.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Largey states that on Aug. 30, 2009, the Sandy Township Police Department responded to the scene of a one vehicle accident on Coral Reef Road. Upon arrival at the scene of the crash, it was found that the vehicle had traveled off the
roadway and two passengers had suffered injuries as a result of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was identified as William J. Matthews. Upon speaking with Matthews, Largey detected signs of impairment and requested that Williams perform standard field sobriety tests. After administering the field sobriety tests, Williams was transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center for blood testing.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 16, 2009, at which time all charges were held for Court. On July 15, 2010, Williams failed to appear for criminal call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
