Claretta M. Cowher, 85, of Sandy Ridge, died Thursday at her home.
Born on May 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Earl P. Streightiff and Ruth W. (Walk) Streightiff Kennedy. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Sandy Ridge.
She was also a member of the Mountain Top Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary, Sandy Ridge, and the St. Paul’s Women’s Bible class.
Mrs. Cowher was a retired bookkeeper for the former John Glenn Sanitation, Philipsburg. She graduated from the former Philipsburg High School in the class of 1944.
She wed Billy J. Cowher on June 23, 1950 in Port Matilda and who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2001.
In addition to her parents and husband, she’s preceded in death by her step-father, Louis Kennedy; two sisters, Leona Price and Evelyn Rae Streightiff; and one brother, William E. Streightiff.
Mrs. Cowher is survived by two sons, Steven W. Cowher and his wife, Carmen of Sandy Ridge and Gregory L. Cowher and his wife, Kathie of Sandy Ridge; and one daughter, Susan Watson and her husband, Matthew of Philipsburg.
She’s also survived by five grandchildren, Jessica Lewis and her husband, Michael; Brent Cowher and his wife, Julie; Ashlea and Joshua Cowher; and Zachary Watson; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Heath Funeral Home, Osceola Mills.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Pastor Mark Thumma officiating. Interment will be at the Umbria Cemetery, Osceola Mills.
