CURWENSVILLE – Preservation work will resume on March 8 on a bridge near Curwensville. The bridge spans the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on Route 453 (Bloomington Hill Road) near Irwin Park. The bridge will be restricted to a 10-foot lane width and barrier and temporary signals will be in place. This project is financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
The barrier and temporary signal will allow traffic to continue through the area as crews repair the bridge deck. The temporary signal requires motorists to alternate turns crossing the bridge. Drivers should expect short delays. PennDOT expects to complete this bridgework in July of this year.
Overall project work includes preservation of the current bridge, approach work and miscellaneous construction. The L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York is the contractor on this $4.8 million job. All work is weather dependent.
This project is part of PennDOT’s more than $66 million investment of federal economic recovery funds being spent on 17 transportation projects across the nine counties of District 2.
