CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors are inviting neighboring municipalities to discuss the possibility of a regionalized police force.
Supervisor Glenn Johnston indicated it would be an effort to preserve a police force for the community. He recommended that the township send letters inviting Clearfield Borough, Curwensville Borough and Pike Township to the discussion table. He stated that a regional police department could save the municipalities money.
The last time the topic was discussed was in 2007, between Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township. Of the four municipalities, three have police departments: Clearfield and Curwensville Boroughs, and Lawrence Township. Due to the size of Curwensville’s police force, one full-time and one part-time officer, the borough also relies on state police service for protection. Pike Township does not have a police department and also relies on state police service for protection.
