William A. “Bill” Polites, 73 of Walltown, Grampian RD, passed away Feb. 14, 2011 at the Dubois Regional Medical Center West after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 20, 1937 in Penn Township, he was the son of Anthony C. and Helen (Sass) Polites. Mr. Polites along with his wife were the co-owners of the former Echo Glen Tavern, Grampian RD, and he had also worked as a garment cutter for the former Kent Sportswear in Curwensville and the former Ideal Sportswear in DuBois. He was a U S Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, and was a member of the Curwensville L.O.O.M. Family Center #268.
On Aug. 25, 1962 in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Madera, PA, he wed the former Donna R. Skonier who survives along with 2 children. Tammy Glass and her husband Calvin of Coalport and William A. “Bill” Polites and his wife Toni of Grampian.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 step great grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother. Phyllis Leasgang of Kersey, Joseph L. Polites and his wife Ann of Stephens City, VA, Mary Ann Brock and her husband Joseph of Curwensville, and Ramona Teklinski of Grampian, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson Nathan Polites, 2 sisters Shirley Polites and Dorothy Johnston, 2 brothers Anthony C. Polites Jr. and James Polites, and a goddaughter Kris Johnston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian on Feb. 19 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure’s Cemetery Grampian.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Feb. 18 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9 until 10:30 a.m., when the procession will depart for the church.
Members of St. Theresa’s Guild of St. Bonaventure Church will recite the Rosary on Friday at 3 p.m. with a Scripture Vigil Services to be conducted Friday at 7:45 p.m., both at the funeral Home.
