LEWISTOWN — After dropping two straight matches at the PIAA team championships in Hershey last week, the Clearfield Bison wrestling team got back on the winning track with a convincing 47-21 victory Tuesday night against the Indian Valley Warriors.
The match started off with a Bison loss at 140 pounds as Max Von Gunden let a third period lead slip away, losing 8-6 to Joe Knarr. Shane Harper gave the Bisons an early 4-3 lead with a 9-1 major decision over Andrew Spickler at 145.
At 152, Bison Cody Lansberry wasted little time as he headlocked Chris Lash and pinned him in just seventeen seconds. Indian Valley stayed within a point at 10-9 when Brandon Michael at 160 took Curtis Owens to his back for a first period fall in 1:54.
Derek Danver gave the Bisons some breathing room at 171 with a tough 8-4 decision over Nikolas Christine. The win was Danver’s team-leading 26th of the season.
At 189, the Warriors would take the lead in the match, 15-13, as Zachary Hassinger made quick work of Jacob Verchick, pinning the Bison in 1:00.
The Bisons then reeled off five straight bonus point wins to put the match away. Jordan Lancaster started the victory parade, racking up the points on his way to a 19-4 technical fall over Colton Schreck at 215.
At 285, Cliff Hill earned his 20th victory of the year when he cradled Jared Kreider and pinned him in 1:33.
Shane Peters upped his record to 25-3 with a quick, 33 second fall over Jordan Hebert at 103. Christian Stone now owns the same 25-3 mark as he dominated Timothy Pearce at 112, scoring a 16-1 technical fall.
Dylan Graham, now 21-9, put the match out of reach, 40-15, with his own technical fall, 16-0, over Brandon Folk at 119. At 125, Indian Valley’s best wrestler, Kaleb Loht, (23-2) gave the home crowd one last cheer by pinning Frankie Aveni in 1:19.
Back-to-back shutout wins by Clearfield wrestlers set the final at 47-21, giving the Bisons their 12th win of the year. Nolan Barger improved to 23-7 this season with a 3-0 decision over Mason Grove at 130 and Troy Danver ended the evening with a 9-0 major decision over Jake Bender at 135.
The Clearfield Bison Junior High squad lost a back and forth, 50-45, match earlier in the night and Bison Garrett Timko was a 9-0 victor in the only JV contest on the evening.
The Bisons (12-4) play host to Bellefonte Thursday night in a make-up match from an early season postponement.
