With the road win the Owls improved to 11-8 for the 2010-11 season under long time head coach Terry Kruise.
The loss snapped a two game winning streak for Curwensville as they fall to 5-15 with just two games remaining on the year.
Cameron Norris, a Harmony senior, fueled the first quarter for the Owls by scoring 12 of his game high 26 in the opening act.
Curwensville did make a game out of it early in the second period as the Tide went on an 8-0 run to begin the second that cut the Owls lead to 20-13. Justin Mulhollen stopped the Curwensville run by draining a three-pointer which started Harmony on an 11-4 sprint of their own to go into the half ahead 31-17.
Tide head coach Matt Wassil spoke after the game about the style of play by Harmony, “They play a different style that we don’t see a lot of. It’s an up tempo, fast paced game at both ends. You need to be ready for that and we just didn’t get it done tonight.”
The third eight minutes saw the Tide somewhat holding their own against the Owls but were still outscored 20-15 leaving them behind by 19 going into the fourth and final period of action.
Then a dreadful offensive final eight minutes for Curwensville as they scored just one point, a free throw by senior Dan Davis, while the Owls put up 16 points to win going away.
Harmony had two players hit for 20 or more points with Norris, as mentioned earlier, scoring 26 and Erik Welteroth knocking down 20.
Freshman Tanner Elensky was a bright spot as he put up 11 points, including one trey, to pace the Curwensville squad.
Wassil then closed by saying, “It was obviously not a good offensive night for us, especially in the fourth quarter when we didn’t even have a field goal. I will give our kids credit for playing with a lot of intensity tonight though. They did play hard most of the game which you like to see regardless of how far behind you are.”
The junior varsity contest went the way of the Harmony Owls also as they stopped Curwensville by a score of 34-27.
The Tide will take the long road trip to Kane on Friday to meet up with the Wolves. Junior varsity action begins at 6 pm with the varsity game to immediately follow.
