MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
MOUNT UNION, Ohio – Penn State Behrend senior Michael Johnson of Clearfield tied for fifth in the high jump at the 2011 Jim Wuske Open in Mount Union’s Peterson Fieldhouse Saturday.
He was one of five competitors to clear the bar at 1.85 meters (6 feet, ¾ inch), which is his personal-best. Misses at that and lower heights determined places two through five.
The event drew 26 entrants from 16 schools.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The three-year letterwinner, a two-year starter at forward, received honorable mention on the 2010 NSCAA College Women’s Scholar All-East Region Team. She is a financial economics major with a 3.45 grade point average.
Struble, who starred at Pitt-Greensburg as a freshman before transferring to Westminster, previously was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic NCAA College Division All-District 2 Third Team.
She earned all-Presidents’ Athletic Conference Second Team honors after scoring 24 points on 10 goals and four assists for the 10-10-2 Lady Titans last fall.
Struble finished second in the PAC in shots with 89, tied for second in game-winning goals with four, ranked sixth in points, tied for eighth in goals and tied for 10th in assists.

MEN’S SWIMMING
PITTSBURGH – Sophomore Mark Krchnak of Clearfield swam the breaststroke leg for the Clarion ‘A’ 200-yard medley team that was victorious against Grove City and Carnegie Mellon and placed third against Pitt in a tri-meet in Trees Pool Saturday.
Krchnak’s 26.99-second split helped the Golden Eagle quartet register a season-best 1:35.96.
Krchnak placed third against Grove City and fourth against the other two opponents in the 200 individual medley with a 2:02.60, his fastest time of the season.
He also swam the 50 free for the first time as a collegian, touching in 22.75 seconds to place fifth against Carnegie Mellon, sixth against Grove City and seventh against Pitt.
Clarion (3-6) was beaten 230-58 by Pitt, 158-127 by Grove City and 154-137 by Carnegie Mellon.

NEW WILMINGTON – Senior twins Chris and John Bodle of Clearfield were two of the three Titans who received 2010-11 Coach Gene Nicholson Swimmer/Scholar Recognition Awards at the annual Westminster team banquet following the final home meet against Mount Union Saturday.
The award, established in 2007 to honor the former coach who guided Westminster’s programs from 1972 through 1985 and the values he exemplified, goes to junior and senior swimmers and divers with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average.
The Bodles, who also earned the award as juniors, earlier helped Titans defeat Mount Union 155-117.
In the 200-yard buttefly, John touched the wall in 2:16.00 and Chris in 2:20.03 to place third and fourth, respectively.
Chris also had a 26.03-second fly leg for the Titan ‘C’ 200 medley team that took fourth in 1:46.61.
Both swam exhibition in two other events in their final appearances in the Westminster Natatorium.
Chris recorded a 2:14.10 in the 200 individual medley and a 24.01 anchor leg for the ‘C’ 200 free relay foursome, while John posted a 2:30.39 in the 200 breast and a 25.56 anchor leg for the ‘B’ 200 free relay quartet.
John had a pair of season-best times last Wednesday when Westminster lost 151-124 at Grove City in a match the decided the Presidents’ Athletic Conference 2011 championship.
He was sixth in the 200 fly in 2:15.84 and eighth in the 100 fly in 59.36.
Chris place seventh in the 200 free in 1:58.34.
Chris swam a 26.51 leg and John a 24.19 anchor for the Titan ‘C’ 200 medley relay team that wound up seventh in 1:48.83.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
WAYNESBURG – Sophomore guard Matt Shiner of Clearfield had one rebound and one assist as Westminster (5-16) defeated Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Waynesburg 86-61 Feb. 2 to end a 17-game road losing streak.
Shiner, who played nine minutes, has 51 points, 19 rebounds, five assists and four steals in 17 games.

WRESTLING
LEWISBURG – Lock Haven redshirt sophomore Derek Caldwell of Curwensville was major decisioned by nationally-ranked Jay Hahn of host Bucknell in the Bald Eagles’ 26-13 non-conference loss Friday night.
Hahn, No. 20 in The Open Mat’s last two NCAA Division I rankings, upped his record to 22-7 with the 14-3 bonus win in the 197-pound bout.
Caldwell is 2-6 in duals and 4-10 overall for Lock Haven (5-9).

WILLIAMSPORT – Lycoming sophomore 174-pounder Jeff Thomas of Curwensville lost an 11-5 decision to SUNY Cortland’s James Ondris in an Empire Collegiate Conference match at the Recreation Center Saturday.
The visiting Red Dragons won 22-10 to drop the Warriors to 3-4 in the conference and 10-11 for the season.
Thomas also slipped under .500 at 9-10 with a 7-8 record in dual meets.
NEW WILMINGTON – Senior Danielle Struble of Curwensville was one of three Westminster players who earned recognition for academics from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last month.
