PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg Elks Lodge & Country Club held its annual “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw contest on Jan. 22 at the Philipsburg-Osceola Area Senior High School gymnasium.
“It was definitely our best attended and most competitive Hoop Shoot yet,” remarked Missy Helsel, chair of the Elks Hoop Shoot program.
Thirty-nine young people competed in two different divisions (boys and girls) and in three different age classes (8-9, 10-11, and 12-13). The winners of the local lodge Hoop Shoot will advance to the North Central District Hoop Shoot at Tyrone Area High School on Saturday, January 29th.
“On behalf of the officers and members of the Philipsburg Elks, I would like to thank everyone who helped or contributed to this great event for our area youth,” said Dan Nelson, Exalted Ruler of the Elks. The Philipsburg Elks would like to especially thank the following: the Lady Mounties Basketball team and booster club; the P-O Area School District and maintenance staff; and the 27 volunteers, parents, and officers, Elk members who assisted in carrying out the Hoop Shoot.
Helsel wrapped-up the day’s accomplishments when she stated, “With this kind of turn-out, I can’t wait for next year.”
