The Lady Rovers defeated the Lady Tide earlier this season 32-24 at Curwensville on December 14.
An 11-4 first period margin for Brockway carried over into the second frame as the hosts scored 14 points while the visitors from Curwensville could only manage three, all on free throws.
The no field goal second quarter for the Lady Tide left them trailing at the intermission, 25-7, still looking for some offensive continuity.
Curwensville coach Rusty McCracken talked about the lack of offense in the first 16 minutes of action, “I think that we had some opportunities in the first half that we just didn’t, for some reason, take advantage of. Turnovers certainly didn’t help our cause. We threw the ball too hard or to places were people couldn’t catch it.”
To the credit of the Lady Tide the offense came alive in the third quarter, outscoring Brockway 17-14 thanks to six points from sophomore Katrina Seaburn and five from junior Savannah Strickland.
Curwensville, however, couldn’t cut into the big Lady Rover lead even when leading scorer Jalina Sabatose left the game early in the third period with four fouls. Brockway just found other scorers as they basically matched the Tide bucket for bucket to maintain a sizeable lead after three periods, 39-24.
The Lady Tide couldn’t get any closer in the final stanza as each squad scored eight points.
McCracken spoke about the third period, “We didn’t play well defensively when we would go down and score. We just were trading baskets that didn’t help us cut the Brockway lead.”
About the remaining schedule McCracken said, “We have a lot chances left on the year and need to put this one behind us.”
Sabatose and LeeAnn Crawford each had 13 points to pace the Lady Rovers while Seaburn had eight and Strickland chipped in with seven for Curwensville who fell to 3-11 on the year.
In junior varsity action the Lady Rovers defeated Curwensville 26-12. The Lady Tide youngsters are now 6-7 on the season.
The Lady Tide travel to DuBois on Monday to take on the Lady Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic (DCC). Curwensville was beaten 56-28 the first time around against DCC on January 7. The junior varsity game will start at 6 pm with the varsity contest to immediately follow.
