Karl Henry Rudeen, 68, of Philipsburg died Friday, Jan. 7 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born on Dec. 31, 1942, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Eva Gunilla (Petersson) Rudeen. Mr. Rudeen served in the United States Air Force at both home and aboard in Turkey from 1964 – 1970.
He retired from the military after earning his rank as captain, returning to the Philipsburg area. He was active in his community, serving on boards and a part of organizations, such as at the Rowland Theatre, the Mid-State Airport Authority, the Philipsburg Parking Authority, the Moshannon Valley YMCA and more recently on the Friends of the Library, Philipsburg.
Mr. Rudeen was a 1960 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. He then graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1964. He was employed at the Pennsylvania State Employment Service, Philipsburg, for over 30 years until his retirement in 2003.
He married the former Constance Leon, who survives him at home. He’s also survived by one daughter, Adriene L. Rudeen-Nicastro of State College; one son, Brit L. Rudeen of Bethlehem; one sister, Dorothy E. Fenstermacher and her husband, L. Robert of Huntingdon; two grandsons, Jackson and Payton Nicastro of State College; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he’s preceded in death by one brother, Ollie E. Rudeen and one sister, Nancy H. Rudeen.
A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Philips Hotel. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30 with the location of the service to be announced at a later time.
Service arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Holt Memorial Library, Philipsburg.
