Helen B. (Syktich) Muhaw, 91, of Beccaria died Saturday at the Phoebe Nursing Home, Allentown.
Born in Fernwood, she was the daughter of the late John and Nancy (Mohnal) Syktich. She was a parishioner of St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Smithmill
Mrs. Muhaw owned and operated The Royal Oak Restaurant in Janesville until 1960. She also worked as a waitress at both the former Paddock and Village Inn Restaurants, Allentown.
She was first married to Karl Schreiner, whom preceded her in death in 1959. In 1975, she married Metro “Downsy” Muhaw, whom preceded her in death in 2004.Â
Mrs. Muhaw is survived by two daughters, Irene Madalana and her husband, Eugene of Allentown and Colette Ferraro and her husband, Gennaro of Allentown and two stepdaughters, Nancy Leonard and her husband, Thomas of Silver Springs, MD and Dorothy Richards and her husband, Robert of Abbottstown. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
She’s also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Mike Syktich and his wife, Lucy of DuBois; Joseph Syktich of Fernwood; Ann Ribelli and her husband, Orlando of Cleveland, OH’ and Stella Vreeland of Pinebrook, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husbands, Mrs. Muhaw was preceded in death by six brothers, Charlie, John, Harry, Sam, Stanley and David and one sister, Catherine DiDario and two infant sisters, Eva and Mary.
Friends will be received 7 – 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 – 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc. Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Smithmill, with Fr. George Hnatko officating. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Ramey.Â
