CLEARFIELD — 11 wrestling teams and their fans braved the arctic weather outside as Clearfield Area High School was the host of the 3rd Annual Bison Duals.
Added to the usual combatants –Â Curwensville, Montoursville, Valley, Greenville, General McLane, Port Allegany, Reading, Johnsonburg, and host Clearfield –Â were newcomers Butler and Pleasant Valley.
Following the format of years past, the teams were split into two pools and after round-robin action within the pool, the winners of each pool would wrestle for first and second overall, second place teams from each pool would wrestle for third and fourth, and so on until all teams earned their final placing. For the first time there were an odd number of teams as Plum High School wasn’t able to make the trip due to the weather.
Two-time defending Bison Duals champion Clearfield (7-2) won Pool A and was set to defend their title against Pool B winner, Butler(22-2). Unfortunately for the Bisons the Golden Tornadoes had just enough firepower to dethrone the Bisons in a match that wasn’t decided until the last bout was wrestled. AÂ decision at heavyweight gave Butler the win by a final score of 33-26.
