Maxwell Alden “Max” Cathcart, 73, of Curwensville, died Wednesday, Jan. 19 at his residence.
Born Dec. 26, 1937 in Curwensville, he was the son of Charles Homer Cathcart and Emma Jean (Rishel) Cathcart Richards. Mr. Cathcart was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church, where he served as the custodian of the church.
Mr. Cathcart was retired from the United States Postal Service Service and prior to that had worked for Kent Sportswear and 11 years at NARCO, all in Curwensville. He was also a member of Noble Lodge #480 F. & A.M. of Curwensville and the Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.
On June 9, 1956, he wed the former Norma E. Neeper who survives along with three children, Chrystine Cathcart Leonard and her husband, Patrick of Pittsburgh; Max Allen Cathcart and his wife, Barbara of Curwensville; and Andrea Leslie Cathcart-McIntosh and her husband, John of Honeoye, NY.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Nicole A. Leonard, Melissa V. Carlson, Gregory P. Leonard and Chasity C. Cathcart; six great grandchildren; one sister, Linda Lee Richards and her husband, Mark of Fort Mills, SC; and one brother, James Cathcart of Clearfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Curtis Richards; two brothers, Charles Homer “Tuft” Cathcart and Kenneth Cathcart; and one sister, Betty Lou McKenrick.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Curwensville United Methodist Church, 602 State St., Curwensville, with the Rev. Dr. Robert S. Ludrowsky, officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc., 300 State St., Curwensville, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the church.
A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by members of Curwensville Noble Lodge # 480 F. & A. M. at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
