The wrestlers, coaches, cheerleaders and many of the fans wore pink T-shirts in honor of cancer patients and to raise awareness of the fight against this horrible disease.
The Black Knight’s however came out with red in their eyes as the visitors from Houtzdale took immediate control of the match with three quick pins and never even thought about looking back in the 48-28 win over the Golden Tide.
The night started at the 152 pound weight class and Jacob Ludwig of MoValley wasted no time putting his squad out in front with a first period fall over Hunter McCracken at 1:46.
Logan Cook, at 160, and Dylan Ludwig, at 171, followed with two more falls for the Black Knight’s as Cook took just fifty seconds to pin Jason Baker and Ludwig 2:59 to end the match with Lewis Rhine.
Mo Valley upped it’s margin to 21-0 when James Stodart decisional Kyle Kyler of the Tide 8-2 at 189. Stodart scored seven points in the third period including a three-point near fall.
Chad Desmett finally put Curwensville on the board with a pin in 2:31 over Gage Domanick at 215 pounds making the score 21-6 in favor of Moshannon Valley, who upped it’s season record to 6-9 with the victory.
At 285 Jack Bunnell picked up a forfeit for the Knight’s followed by William Bryan at 103 pounds pinning Aaron Kline of the Tide in just 27 seconds increasing the Mo Valley margin to 33-6.
The Black Knight’s would get a decision and a fall in the next two bouts to seal the victory as the lead stretched to 42-6.
Bryce Bloom, a freshman for Mo Valley at 112, took his record to 6-0 on the year with a 9-2 win over Tyler Mays and Andrew Ohler pinned Curwensville’s Greg Koptchak at 119 in 4:36.
Then came a rally for the Golden Tide, winning the next four bouts to close the team score gap to 42-28 when the mini-recovery was over.
Trey McKenzie of the Tide pinned fellow freshman Dylan Fudalski in 2:54 then watched Alex Holt pick up a major decision with a 10-2 victory over Kody Mayhew of the Knight’s.
Jake Keller would remain undefeated (15-0) for Curwensville and would record the fastest fall of the evening by pinning Brice Love, at 135, in only 22 seconds.
A forfeit at 140 pounds for Nathan Wriglesworth of the Golden Tide would make the score a little closer, 42-28 in favor of the Black Knight’s.
The festivities for the evening would end at 145 were Nathan Smeal would get the sixth fall for Mo Valley when he pinned the Tide’s Austin Pollick in 30 seconds.
Afterwards, Curwensville head coach Duane Wriglesworth gave his view on the match, “ Moshannon Valley is very tough in the upper weights and we just had a hard time competing there.” Then Wriglesworth added, “We did get some pins (3) tonight and of course as a coach I was hoping for a few more.”
Finally the Tide mentor talked about patience, “We just need to be more patient out there. It seemed we got in a hurry a lot of times. We need to work on that.”
Curwensville won the junior high meet 57-45 over Moshannon Valley. There were no JV matches on tap.
The Golden Tide, now 4-6 on the year, travel to Ridgway to meet the Elkers on Thursday with the junior high match starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
