CLEARFIELD – Anyone who has ever given consideration to serving on their school board, borough council or township board will have the chance to learn how to do it.
The Penn State Cooperative Extension in conjunction with the Clearfield County Election Office has scheduled a workshop -“Thinking about Running for Local Office” – from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. The workshop will be held at the Clearfield County Courthouse, Courtroom No. 2, located at 1 North Second St., in downtown Clearfield.
The workshop will include an overview of Pennsylvania local government and the responsibilities of a township supervisor, a borough council member or a school board director and will be presented by the Penn State Cooperative Extension.
Instructions about how to run, including filing a petition, reporting campaign expenses and other related information will be presented by Dawn Graham, director of elections for Clearfield County.
In addition, there will be a panel of county officials on hand to not only discuss their decision to run for office, but also to share some of their experiences since they were elected.
“The people who run our local governments are our friends and neighbors – people just like us,” said Penn State Extension Educator Bill Shuffstall.
“You don’t need special training or experience to serve your township, borough or school district. If you’re interested in serving, care about your community and are willing to learn on the job, we’d like to encourage you to throw your hat in the ring.”
There is a $5.00 registration fee per participant.
