Holland, PA — The Clearfield Bisons figured they would have their hands full heading to the 31-team Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock South High School.
They were right.
Only one Bison wrestler made it through the first day unbeaten – 112 pound sophomore Christian Stone. Stone (12-1), the number four seed, will have the unenviable task of facing the number one wrestler in the state in the semifinals when he takes to the mat versus Line Mountain’s Zain Retherford.
Stone picked up a 4-2 win over Mike Pritchard and then decked Colonial Forge’s Michael Hayes right before the buzzer in the quarterfinals. Retherford has pinned both of his opponents thus far.
Competing in the third round of consolations Saturday morning will be senior 103 pounder Shane Peters (10-2), 119 pound sophomore Dylan Graham (11-5), fellow sophomore Nolan Barger (12-5) at 130, senior 152 pounder Shane Harper (7-7), senior 171 pounder Derek Danver (13-2), and 215 pound senior Cliff Hill (7-2).
Clearfield sits in 17th place with 51 team points. Parkland leads with 98 points.
Picking up one victory before before being eliminated Friday night were Frankie Aveni at 125, Troy Danver at 135, and Andrew Hill at 140. Four Bisons were “two and through”.
