In a game that saw only seven free throws taken and just 10 personal fouls called DCC started fast and efficient to put the game on ice by building a 27-9 lead at the end of one quarter of play.
Cardinal Dan Fitzpatrick, who lead all scorers with 19, had 12 in the first eight minutes to pace Mike Nesbit’s squad.
Curwensville head coach Matt Wassil pulled no punches afterwards, “ We were outplayed, outworked, out coached, out everything tonight. We are certainly better than this.”
The Tide would only manage three points in the second frame, all from senior Alec Starr, while DuBois Central Catholic would drop in 17 to go up at the half 44-12.
Starr put in a lay-up and drew a foul about midway through the second quarter. After Starr made the free throw to complete the three point play the Tide would not score again until 5:18 was left in the game when Shane Hoover knocked in a three-pointer.
If at all possible the Tide came out not just cold in the third quarter but actually almost frozen. The Cardinals blanked Curwensville 18-0 in the third eight minutes to push the margin to an even 50 points at the end of three, 62-12. Thus came the mercy rule.
Wassil added, “We just weren’t aggressive enough tonight. We had some open shots but for whatever reason we just didn’t take them.”
Then the Tide mentor closed with , “We can’t let this game and loss linger. We need to move on from here.”
Helping Fitzpatrick on offense for DCC was Chris Marshall with 10, followed by eight each from Jake Krause and Brad Gallagher.
Curwensville had three players each score five points; Alec Starr, Shane Hoover, both seniors, and freshman Tanner Elensky.
It was all DuBois Central Catholic in the junior varsity contest as the Cardinals swamped the Tide 58-9.
The Golden Tide, now 2-7, will next take to the hardwood when they entertain Johnsonburg on Tuesday night. JV action starts at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
