HOUTZDALE – State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale Superintendent Steven Glunt announced that Journey for Change—an organization comprised of approximately 300 inmates in the prison—has donated $1,000 to help two local families realize their Christmas wishes this holiday season.
Glunt said the inmates made the donation to the Christmas Carol Foundation—a local effort sponsored by Forever Broadcasting. The foundation uses charitable contributions from local residents and businesses to grant Christmas wishes. Local families in need of assistance due to catastrophic losses and serious medical situations are eligible.
Inmates held fundraisers among the prison population throughout the year to raise money for the donation. This is the second donation Journey for Change has made to the community this year. In May, the organization donated $250 to Operation Family Ties, which helps needy families of deployed military members.
Journey for Change provides inmates with the opportunity to serve their sentences productively. The organization helps inmates prepare for a successful return to society by educating them about the economics, management and social skills associated with charitable work efforts.
