Delores Buchsen, former Site Director of the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum was honored at a luncheon last Friday hosted by the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum Associates. Delores retired earlier this year after serving at the Lumber Museum for 38 years. She started as an exhibit designer when the Museum was being built in the early 1970’s and served as its Director for many years.
Chuck Dillon of Sen. Joe Scarnati’s office accompanied by Suzan Paisley of Representative Martin Causer’s office presented Delores with a Pennsylvania Senate Commendation. She was also presented with a resolution passed by the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission Directors by Brenda Reigle, Acting PHMC Western Division Chief, commending Delores on her service to the Commonwealth. During the luncheon, Delores received a phone call from PHMC Executive Director, Barbara Franco, expressing her appreciation and well wishes for her retirement.
Since her retirement, Delores has been donating her time in helping to prepare the Museum collections for the upcoming renovations and expansion slated for fall of 2011.Â
For almost 40 years the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum has served to preserve and interpret the colorful heritage of the Commonwealth’s prosperous lumber era when white pine and hemlock were the wealth of the nation. From the Shay Locomotive to the recreated lumber camp to the restored CCC cabin, visitors can get a sense of what it was like during the rugged years of wood hicks and lumber barons and the conservation work that followed giving us the magnificent forests we enjoy today.
