So I posted awhile back that I would share my favorite bands, and now I’ve had the time to put this list together, here it is. A few notes:
1.) Bands 10-6 are in no particular order. They’re on my list, but not in the top five.
2.) I’m attaching at least one link to a video or concert recording from YouTube for each band/performer.
3.) This is all in fun, so feel free to mock or cheer all you like, but I also welcome you to share your favorite musicians. Also, this isn’t a “Best Bands Ever” list … I think music’s a little too personal for that. So just becuase you don’t see the Rolling Stones or the Beatles, it doesn’t mean I don’t think they’re two of the top rock bands ever, it just means I don’t like them that much.
And here we go …
10.) Fugazi
Outside of inexpensive cassette tapes when I was in my teens, this group also had a great sound. A staple during middle school/high school
9.) The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Such an awesome band. First heard them in the eighth grade when I found a copy of Mother’s Milk.
8.) Weezer
Another band with a great sound. Started listening to them in high school and followed them since. One of my favorite albums is Pinkerton, but really, you can’t go wrong with anything they’ve released.
“Buddy Holly” (You really can’t go wrong with this song.)
7.) Pavement
Another band from my middle school/high school years. Insightful. Raw. “Here” is probably one of my favorite songs. Ever.
6.) Anthrax
Ferocious. That’s the best way I can describe them. I first heard them when I was in the sixth or seventh grade and was hooked.

5.) Ashley MacIsaac
The man plays a mean fiddle. Seriously. Another teen-years favorite that I still listen too.
4.) Primus
I don’t know what to say about this band … they’re kind of hard to describe. First song of their’s I ever heard was “John the Fisherman“, which is still one of my favorite songs.
3.) Clockhammer
Never heard of ’em? Can’t say I blame you. I only heard of them through a friend. Great sound. Hard, bluesy.

2.) The Who
I would probably be disowned by my family for not including them on this list. And yeah, they are pretty high. I was introduced to this band through my parents and have been listening to them for what seems like forever. For those who aren’t familiar with the band, you’ve maybe heard their songs during the intro’s to the various CSI shows.
1.) Faith No More
Yup. My all time favorite. Like a lot of people, the first song of theirs I heard was “Epic“, followed by “Falling to Pieces” back when MTV played music videos. The core of the band actually goes back a ways, and for a time they cycled through a number of singers. You’ll hear two of them in the provided samples, Chuck Mosley and Mike Patton (he’s the one most people are familiar with). I actually discovered Chuck’s FNM when I asked for an FNM tape for a present. Instead of their album The Real Thing, I got Introduce Yourself. Totally different sound, vocally. Fun fact: the band’s song “We Care A Lot” is the intro to Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs.
Bands/musicians who just missed the list: The B-52’s (Rock Lobster…can’t go wrong with that), Louis Armstrong (Mack the Knife), Megadeth (Holy Wars…The Punishment Due), Operation Ivy (Bombshell) and Frank Zappa.
