University Park, Pa. — Penn State Lady Lions head coach Coquese Washington announced that Tori Waldner has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play of the Lady Lions beginning in the 2011-12 season. The 6-5 center from Milton High School in Milton, Ga. signed her NLI Wednesday (Nov. 9) morning in a ceremony at her high school.
"I am so thrilled to have Tori joining us here at Penn State," Washington said. "She is an incredibly smart young lady and an outstanding student. Her intelligence and basketball IQ are top notch. She will certainly add size and depth to our post game. What I really like about her game is she has good hands and she moves well for her size. She gets up and down the floor well and she is an excellent passer. In addition, she is a great teammate and has outstanding leadership potential. She is going to bring so many positives to our team both on and off the court. I can’t wait for her to suit up for us!"
Waldner, who is the first commit in the Lady Lions’ 2011 recruiting class, averaged 9.0 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Eagles as a junior. The native of Alpharetta, Ga. also rejected 5.0 shots per game. The Eagles finished the season with a 22-5 record and made it to the Region 6AAAAA Championship game. Waldner was named to the All-Region first team as a junior. Waldner plays her AAU ball with FBC Southeast Elite. She chose Penn State over Georgia, Indiana, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Old Dominion. Waldner also plays volleyball at Milton High School.
