WOMEN’S SOCCER
SLIPPERY ROCK – Forward Juliana Howell of Clearfield scored the game-winning goal for Slippery Rock (12-3-3) in a 2-0 non-conference victory over the University of Charleston (W.Va.) at Thompson Stadium last Wednesday.
One of five Rock seniors honored prior to the game, Howell sent classmate Ashley Paganie’s crossing pass from the right side into the lower right corner of the net for her first goal of the season and the 10th of her career.
Howell started for the eighth time Saturday as The Rock extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Lock Haven to finish the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season in fifth place with 27 points for an 8-3-3 record.
Slippery Rock is one of eight qualifiers for the PSAC Playoffs.
Howell has one goal and four assists in 15 games, with five of her eight shots on goal.

NEW WILMINGTON – Westminster (10-9-1) senior forward Danielle Struble of Curwensville registered the game-winning goal in a 4-1 win at Bethany (W.Va.) on Wednesday and assisted on the lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Washington & Jefferson at Harold Burry Stadium Saturday.
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference split left the Lady Titans tied for third place with Grove City at 5-3, but Westminster will be the No. 4 seed for this week’s PAC Tournament because of a 5-0 loss at Grove City on Oct. 6.
Struble’s unassisted goal in the 29th minute put Westminster up 2-0 on Bethany and was her fourth game-winner of the season.
She was credited with the helper on Sarah Nee’s goal that had the Lady Titans in front of W & J at halftime before the visitors rallied to claim the win in the showdown for second place.
In PAC stats, Struble ranks sixth in points with 24, eighth in goals with 10 and tied for 10th in assists with four. She is tied for first in game-winning goals and is No. 2 in shots with 86.

LOCK HAVEN – Midfielder Jenny Williams of Clearfield started in the final game of her Lock Haven career Saturday, a scoreless double-overtime tie with Slippery Rock.
Williams was one of eight Lady Eagle seniors recognized before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference duel in Hubert Jack Stadium.
She scored three goals and assisted one another for seven points in 17 games, including six starts. Six of her 11 shots were on goal.
Williams played in 46 games, with 17 starts, in three seasons.
She wound up with 14 points on six goals, one a game-winner, and two assists and was credited with 20 shots, 11 on goal.

LORETTO – Freshman forward/midfielder Brooke Mohney of Clearfield appeared in St. Francis’ historic 3-0 shutout against Wagner (N.Y.) at the Stokes Soccer Complex Sunday.
The Senior Day win gave the Red Flash (14-4-1) a school-record undefeated (9-0) home record for the first time as well as a six-game winning streak to carry into next weekend’s Northeast Conference Playoffs.
St. Francis, which blanked Long Island (N.Y.) 1-0 Friday, posted an 8-2 mark to finish in second place for the first time with 24 points, just one behind champion Long Island (N.Y.).
Mohney has played in six games.

MEN’S SOCCER
WASHINGTON – Senior midfielder John Lhota of Clearfield enjoyed his most productive week of the season for Presidents’ Athletic Conference champion Washington & Jefferson (12-3-2) with a goal in a 6-0 win over Thiel at Greenville Wednesday and an assist in a 6-1 victory over Westminster at New Wilmington Saturday.
His goal in the 60th minute expanded the Presidents’ lead to 5-0 against Thiel and his assist came on the game-winning goal by Mike Pappas in the 24th minute against Westminster.
The two wins capped a 7-0 run through the PAC for the Titans, who are the No. 1 seed for this weeks conference tournament.
Lhota has two goals and three assists for seven points. He has registered 20 shots, 14 on goal.

ALTOONA – Freshman midfielder Kurtis Graham of Clearfield had two shots, one on goal, as No. 3 seed Penn State Altoona (11-9) opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 6 seed Pitt-Greensburg at Spring Run Stadium Saturday.
He also subbed Wednesday when the Lions dropped their AMCC regular season finale to LaRoche, 2-0, at Pittsburgh for a 6-3 record that secured third place with 18 points.
Graham has three assists in 19 games, including six starts. His .533 shot-on-goal percentage (8-for-15) is second-best for the Lions.

NEW WILMINGTON – Senior midfielder Alan Baldwin of Olanta closed his Westminster career with two starts last week as the Titans bowed 2-0 at Bethany (W.Va.) Wednesday and 6-1 to Washington & Jefferson Saturday in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.
The Clearfield Area High School graduate had a shot in both games. The attempt against Bethany was his lone shot on goal in six tries this season.
Westminster finished 2-5 in the PAC and 3-12-3 overall.
Baldwin appeared in 43 games in four years as a Titan, scoring four points on one goal and two assists. Three of his 19 shots were on goal.

FOOTBALL
ERIE – Senior strong safety Nick Sipes of Curwensville led the defense in tackles for eighth time this season as Clarion (3-6) limited Gannon to 186 yards and eked out an 11-10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division win.
Sipes, one of five players with five or more stops, had one solo tackle and assisted in eight others for the Golden Eagles, who disappointed the Gannon University Field crowd of 1,112 on a touchdown with 4:39 left to even their conference record at 3-3.
He is second in the PSAC with 49 assists and third with 87 total tackles, a 9.7 average.
Sipes has been involved in nine tackles for losses of 16 yards.
He also has one sack, one interception, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.
In NCAA Division III, Sipes ranks No. 21 in with 9.67 tackles per game.

OBERLIN, Ohio – Right cornerback David Kalgren of Curwensville made three tackles and broke up one pass as Oberlin (3-5) got back into the win column by shutting down Denison (Ohio) 20-10 before 429 fans at Savage Stadium Saturday.
The Yeomen’s defense held the visitors to 191 yards and forced seven punts for its second North Coast Athletic Conference win in five games.
Kalgren also returned one kickoff 16 yards and three punts for 18 yards.
His 51 solo stops, 63 total tackles, four interceptions for 69 return yards and 12 punt returns for 80 yards all lead the Yeomen.
He is tied for the lead with five passes broken up and one blocked kick.
With 235 yards for 11 kickoff returns, he is third in all-purpose yards with 384, an average of 48 per game.
Kalgren shares the NCAC lead in interceptions and is third in passes defended with nine and tied for sixth in tackles with a 7.9 average. He is first in tackles among defensive backs.

LOCK HAVEN – Wide receiver Jesse Hoover of Curwensville had his busiest game of the season at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday night as Lock Haven (0-9) battled Edinboro to the wire before suffering its 29th consecutive setback, 30-22.
The redshirt freshman pulled in eight passes for 80 yards in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game that was seen by only 569 fans.
He leads the Bald Eagles with 16.3 yards per reception and 44.9 receiving yards per game and is second in receptions (22), yards (359) and touchdowns (2).
Hoover’s 61-yarder is Lock Haven’s longest pass reception.

WASHINGTON – Senior wingback and special teamer Tyler Kirkwood of Frenchville assisted on a punt return tackle for Grove City (3-5) in a 21-14 defeat by Washington & Jefferson Saturday.
The Wolverines dipped to 1-4 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with 2,315 looking on at Cameron Stadium.
Kirkwood was a starter four of the seven games he’s played.

EDWARDSVILLE – Sophomore wide receiver Jarrin Campman of Clearfield saw reserve action for Lycoming (5-3) in a 31-14 Middle Atlantic Conference loss to host Wilkes in front of 950 fans at the Ralston Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Campman has played in six games for the Warriors, who are 3-2 in the MAC.

PITTSBURGH – Dan Hutchins booted eight points out of holds by redshirt junior quarterback Andrew Janocko of Clearfield as Pitt (5-3) handled Louisville 20-3 at Heinz Field Saturday to remain undefeated at 3-0 atop the Big East Conference.
A crowd of 48,562 saw the Panther placekicker nail field goals of 26 and a season-long 42 yards that put the Panthers ahead 6-3 in the second quarter. He tacked on two extra points.
