RIDGWAY — The Clearfield boys and girls cross country teams competed on Saturday at the District 9 Championships, which was held at the Grandinetti Elementary School course in Ridgway.
Neither team was able to advance a runner on to the state championship meet at Hershey on November 6.
Bradford claimed both team AAA titles, with the Clearfield girls placing third and the Clearfield boys fifth.
The individual crowns were won by Milea Schall of Punxsutawney with a time of 19:54 on the girl’s side and Gideon Woelfel of St. Marys with a time of 17:13 in the boy’s race.
Clearfield’s top finisher was Johanna Ryan who ran a 21:36 to place 11th overall.
Head coach John Jacob said this about Ryan’s race, “On the girl’s side Johanna Ryan was only 19 seconds away from qualifying for the State Championship meet. The pace over the first mile was a little quick and it took its toll on the whole field; but going into the last mile Johanna slipped back out of the last qualifying spot. She ran a very nice race and her time of 21:36 was close to her season best. She worked very hard her senior season and can be very proud of her accomplishments this season.”
Jacob added that, “Abby Jury had a very nice race running her season best time of 23:17.”

Curwensville’s Rebecca Johnson placed 43rd in the girl’s AA meet with a time of 23:50.
The Clearfield boy’s top finisher was Alec Coble, who placed 14th overall with a time of 19:08.
Jacob had this to say about the boy’s team results, “On the boy’s side Alec Coble ran his fastest time of the season and finished first on the team for the first time. Vince Kovach had a nice race and by the end of the race quietly moved into third place on the team running his season best time of 20:11.”
