CLARION – Clarion University and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) will conduct three baseball officiating classes on Nov. 2, 9, and 16 at the REC Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The classes are free to any Clarion University student with a valid I.D. The non-CU student fee is $30.Â
The first session will be a distribution of information packets, rule books and officiating basics. Session two will be a rules education class with a question and answer component. The third session will be a PIAA rules certification test. Current PIAA officials will conduct the sessions. Once certified, participants will have the opportunity to officiate locally in PIAA events. Participants must attend all three sessions. Preregistration is not required.
The classes are part of the START (Students of Today Are Referees of Tomorrow) program created to encourage current students, particularly student-athletes, to “stay in the game” by becoming an official. The START program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and other small college conferences in Pennsylvania.
