Delford R. “Del” Wigfield, 87 of Clearfield, passed away on Oct. 23, 2010 at Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield, PA.
Born on Jan. 10, 1923 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of Charles and Goldie (Smith) Wigfield.
Mr. Wigfield retired from Kurtz Brothers maintenance department after nearly forty years of service.
He had been affiliated with West Side United Methodist Church.
Mr. Wigfield was a member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows. He was also a life member of the Clearfield Fire Company First Ward, where he had served as the chief for six years from 1965-1970. He remained active for many years as a member of the Central District Fireman’s Association, a former member of the Relief Board and a member of the Clearfield Ambulance Board.
Mr. Wigfield was an avid camper and enjoyed being in the outdoors. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.
Surviving, are his wife of sixty five years, Dorothy E. (Eshelman) Wigfield, whom he married on Oct. 6, 1945 in Erie, PA; two sons: Gary C. Wigfield and his wife Kendra and Terry L. Wigfield, Sr. and his wife Holly, all of Clearfield; four grandchildren: Stephanie Reed and her husband Jeff of Winchester, VA, Stacy Nawrocki and her husband Steve of Erie, PA, Terry L. Wigfield, Jr. and his companion Mandy Billotte, both of Clearfield and Megan Beck and her husband Tim Beck of Germantown, MD; three great-granddaughters, Madison Reed, Dannilynn Wigfield and Lia Nawrocki; a brother, Merle Wigfield of Clearfield and a sister, Charlotte Tibbens of Curwensville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Oct. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, PA. with Rev. Bruce Dimmick officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Clearfield, PA.
Friends will be received on Oct. 26 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
