DUBOIS – The following information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of Oct. 18.
All work is weather dependent.
TRAFFIC ALERT: The intersection of South Main Street, Hospital Avenue, Dixon Avenue, and South Main Street Extension will become a four-way stop beginning on Oct. 19. All traffic approaching this intersection will need to stop. The contractor will be paving one lane of Dixon Avenue between Smithfield Street and South Main Street on Monday, Oct. 18. Traffic will be placed on the newly paved lane of Dixon Avenue on Oct. 19 and the contractor will begin excavating for the other lane. Dixon Avenue will continue to be one way until further notice.
Traffic will only be able to travel from Smithfield Street to South Main Street. All other traffic will need to follow the posted detour. Murtland Avenue will be closed at the intersection of Dixon Avenue until further notice.
The contractor will be preparing to place the final lane of concrete pavement on South Main Street between Grove Avenue and Dixon Avenue. The contractor will continue to form and place concrete curb and sidewalk throughout the project.
Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone. The overall project will re-align Hospital Avenue with Dixon Avenue. Work includes roadway widening, new traffic signals, and improved access to DRMC.
The job is scheduled to run through late November of this year. SET, Inc. of Lowellville, Ohio, is the contractor on the $4.2 million project. PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
