Beatrice E. “Betty” Bitting, 90, DuBois died Friday at the DuBois Nursing Home. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Born on July 20, 1920 in Sykesville, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Beulah (Sloppy) Shugarts. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She grew up in Luthersburg before moving to Philadelphia, where she worked at General Electric for over 20 years. She was a skilled seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Gordon Shugarts; one sister, Nora Louise Reiter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Troutville, where she was a member. The Rev. Mary Ellen Hoffman will be officiating. There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the National Kidney Foundation. The Goble-Baronick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
