H. Adolphus Smith 101, of Clearfield, PA died early afternoon Wednesday, Oct. 2010 at Clearfield Colonial Court Yard where he was a resident. Born Aug. 3, 1909 in Clearfield, he was the son of Frank P. and Pearl (Rhone) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clearfield. He worked, in Airplane and Instrument Co. in Hyde, PA during World War II and at Riverside Motors before spending the last twenty-five years as a pressman at the Clearfield Progress retiring in 1976.
Mr. Smith was a lifetime member of the Clearfield Elks #540, the Curwensville Moose #268 and the Clearfield Eagles #812 where he was a past president and ran the bingo program there for some thirty years.
Mr. Smith was a very loving man, and enjoyed his last four years at Clearfield Colonial Court Yard where he was loved by all the members and staff and he was very happy.
He wed Malvenia (Pinky) Guenot Smith in Clearfield, PA on August 23, 1930 at St. John Lutheran Church. He and “Pinky” loved to dance. They taught their children at a young age what fun it was to dance. He danced in a group with his dear friend and companion Thelma Guelich, whom he traveled with for over fifteen years until he was ninety-six years.
His beloved “Pinky” preceded him in death on Christmas 1988. Also preceding him in death was his parents, a son Jerry Lee Smith, a brother Ward and his wife Polly, a sister Mona Bell and a sister Beryl Billotte.
He is survived by a son Marven and his wife Diana, of Cleafield, a daughter Marie Peters and her husband Clyde (Pete) Peters, of Curwensville, and a brother Lester and his wife Helen of Tuscon, AZ.
In addition he has seven grandchildren, Atlee Peters and his wife Amy of Curwensville, Dana (Peters) Clark of Pittsburgh, PA, Damon Peters and his wife Anne of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Douglas Smith and his wife Maurine of Lancaster, PA, Vickie J. Smith of Harrisburg, PA and Lisa Kay Giacobe and her husband Nick of Pleasant Gap, PA, and Eric Smith of Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Smith also had nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren that survive him along with several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield, PA, on Oct. 8 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
Funeral services will be on Oct. 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Letscher officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. John’s Memorial Fund, 217 E. Pine Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
