CLEARFIELD – During the public comment period Tuesday, David Saudarg of Krebs Moving and Storage confronted the Clearfield County Commissioners about why a higher proposed bid was selected for the county’s move from the Multi-Service Center to the Gray Building.
Saudarg said that he proposed a bid, which was approximately $2,000 lower, than that selected by the commissioners. County Solicitor Kim Kesner explained that they were not “restricted” to the lowest proposed bid.
Commissioner Chairman John A. Sobel explained that they considered the “totality” of the move when making the decision. In doing so, he said they found the middle bidder was a more accommodating selection given the circumstances.
“It wasn’t anything negative against you or your company,” he said. However, Saudarg said he believed the county was showing favoritism in its selection of another company.
Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen said they advertised the moving job to all local companies. She said they received proposals from three companies, and they were all local.
Further, she explained that his proposal required more of their workers upfront while the other moving companies did not. Saudarg then asked why that concern wasn’t brought to his attention.
Sobel suggested that Saudarg speak with them privately after the meeting. He said it wasn’t an appropriate time to discuss the issues further. Saudarg, however, left the meeting.
“I (still) think you’re wasting county money,” he said.
After the meeting, Robinson-McMillen said they neither had anything against Saudarg nor his company. She said he has done moving for the county in the past.
