Gerald Ray Butterworth, 84, of Lanse died Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the Mouttain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Born Jan. 12, 1926 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mabel Pearl (Irwin) Butterworth. He was a member of the New Life Center, Philipsburg.
Mr. Butterworth was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during World War II. He retired from River Hill Coal Co., where he was a mechanic.
He married Florence (Usilton) Young Butterworth, whom survives him at home, on Oct. 15, 1986 in Virginia.
He’s survived by three brothers, Dean M. Butterworth of Philipsburg; Eldon E. Butterworth and his wife, Jo Ann of Punxsutawney; and Jon E. Butterworth and his wife, Rose, of Chester Hill; three sisters, Theora Marie Williamson of Gearhartville; Carol Joan Dimond and her husband, Paul, of Chester Hill; and Janet Lou Miller of Lock Haven; and two stepchildren, David Young and his wife, Lisa of Massachusetts and Debra Brown and her husband, Elijah of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Vivian (Pierce) Butterworth, who died Jan. 31, 1986, He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Irwin L. Butterworth and Maynard C. Butterworth and one son, Richard Butterworth.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Life Center, 111 S. Second St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. John T. Dill officiating. Burial was at Lanse Evangelical Free Church Cemetery, where full military honors were conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
