Vada L. “Nanny” Thompson, 84 of Clearfield, PA, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 at her residence.
Born on Dec. 29, 1925 in Clearfield, PA, she was the daughter of John K. and Irene (Michaels) Baney.
Mrs. Thompson retired in 1991 as the head cook from the Clearfield Hospital after eighteen years of service. Prior to that, she had been employed as a cook at several area establishments, which included the Quaker Market, Clear Haven and Longs Dairy.
Mrs. Thompson was well known for her baking skills, especially for the beautiful wedding cakes that she had made for her family and friends.
She was also an avid gardener. She enjoyed her garden and all of her flowers that she grew.
She was a member of the Clearfield Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mrs. Thompson was a supporter of World Vision and was a strong supporter of any activity that supported children.
Mrs. Thompson was devoted to and loved her family dearly. They were her life. She also had a love for animals, especially for her dog “Lucy”.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by three children: Robert L. Thompson and his wife Ann, Connie Hoyt and her husband Robert and Debbie McKenrick and her Husband Boyd all of Clearfield; Twelve grandchildren: Robert Thompson, Jr., Candy Shomo, Diana Stiles, Tammy Hoyt, Ginny Anderson, Amy Hoyt, Bobbi Jones, Melissa Bush, Kimberly McKenrick, Jon Thompson, Leah Myers and Maryah Yost; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by a brother Ken Baney and his wife Evelyn of Lock Haven, PA and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter C. Thompson, whom she married on March 10, 1946 in Clearfied and who passed away Jan. 8, 1978; a son, W. Lynn Thompson; a daughter, Bonnie Haberl; a sister, Ruth Guelich and a brother, John Baney.
Funeral services will be held on Sept. 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, PA with Dr. Duane White officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Sept. 21 at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 until the hour of services.
