Professor Michael Oriard, distinguished professor of American literature and culture at Oregon State University, will be the featured speaker for a discussion about college football. Oriad is the author of "Bowled Over: Big-Time College Football from the Sixties to the BCS Era." The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in 112 Chambers Building on Penn State’s University Park campus.
As a walk-on at the University of Notre Dame, Oriard became offensive captain and a second-team All-American by his senior year. He then played four years with the Kansas City Chiefs and one with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League while pursuing his doctorate in British and American literature at Stanford University.
