CLEARFIELD – Judy Ann Davis of Clearfield announces the release of her first novel, “Red Fox Woman,” with Black Rose Writing. The novel is classified as a mystery, western and historical romance.
Main character and Pennsylvania potter, Julia Gast flees from Lancaster to the Colorado Territory in 1868 to escape secrets from her past. Hoping to start a new life raising horses and creating pottery to sell, she is surprised to learn the ranch she purchased from her deceased uncle has been deeded to both herself and an adopted sister of four brothers.
Among the many colorful characters in the novel is a renegade Indian, Two Bears, who nicknames her Red Fox Woman because of her flaming red hair.
Davis also detailed the uniqueness of her first novel.
“It’s the ring flask on the front cover,” Davis explained, which is integral to the story’s plot. “
They were fashioned by redware potters in the mid 1800’s, and used by workers to carry drinking water to the fields,” she said.
Davis began her career in writing as a copy and continuity writer for WGBI Radio and WYOU-TV, formerly WDAU-TV, in Scranton. She has worked public relations for the Clearfield Area School District, in adult education for the Central Intermediate Unit 10 and the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center.
Throughout her career, Davis has written over a dozen short stories, which have appeared in various literary and small magazines. She holds a degree in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh and is a member of Pennwriters.
Raised on a farm in Susquehanna County, Davis is the daughter of the late Jean and Frank Lashinski of Kingsley. She is married to Scott Davis, and they have two sons.
