Roger C. Conaway, 63 of Clearfield, passed away on Sept. 4, 2010 at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born on Jan. 4, 1947 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of Barbara A. (Brion) Conaway of Clearfield and the late Sherman R. Conaway.
Mr. Conaway was a 1964 graduate of the Clearfield Area High School. He later served with the Pennsylvania National Guard for ten years.
Mr. Conaway retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 2001 after thirty-three years of service.
He was a member the John Lewis Shade Post #6 of the Clearfield American Legion and was a member of the Panther Rock Hunting Club of Clearfield.
Mr. Conaway had a love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing softball, baseball and track. Later in his life, he enjoyed watching many different sports and was an avid Penn State fan.
Mr. Conaway also enjoyed his classic cars and collecting coins.
Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, son and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Barbara L. (Turner) Conaway, whom he married on September 2, 1967 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Clearfield; his daughter, Beth (Conaway) Schmidt and her husband Ron of Hagerstown, MD; a sister, Debora Worley and her husband Kevin of Clearfield; eight nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Conaway is preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. in The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield with Rev. Robert Melgard and Mr. Richard Barkley co-officiating. Inurnment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.
Friends will be received in the church on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until the hour of services.
