CLEARFIELD – Five area men were honored this year at the “Hello to Hollywood” themed Summer Celebration, co-sponsored by the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (CCAAA) and Colonial Courtyard of Clearfield. Mark Taylor, Denny Skraba, Dick Coudriet, John Esposito, and Al Pallo members of the band, The Vagabonds, play and entertain almost every weekend of the year and usually for charity. They often donate their time to bring music and joy to others throughout Clearfield County.
While performing for the Summer Celebration on August 26, they were surprised and honored by the Volunteer Center of Clearfield County, a program of the CCAAA. Alice Pollock, Program Operations Specialist of the Volunteer Center, recognized the men with the awarding of “The President’s Volunteer Service Award” from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. The award is a replica of the Presidential Shield in the form of a gold pin.
This award is presented to individuals to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service to help strengthen our country. In January of 2002, President George W. Bush called all Americans to dedicate at least two years or 4,000 hours of service over the course of their lives to serve others. The Vagabonds, through such dedication of public service, have dedicated their time and energy with their talents as musicians. They performed weekly at local nursing homes and church functions and for the past three years donated their talents to perform at the Summer Celebration. The five Vagabonds make a difference through their volunteer service.
Programs and services of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Mature Resources Foundation, and local and client contributions.
