Iva Lavinia Owens, 102 years, passed away Sept. 1, 2010 at Ridgeview Eldercare and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville, PA.
Born in Clearfield in their home on Hannah Street, September 22, 1907, she was the daughter of McClellan and Isa (Shaw) Owens.
She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1927. After graduating from the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1930, she did private duty nursing at the Clearfield Hospital for 42 years—until 1972. She was a member of the Nurses’ Alumni of Clearfield Hospital.
Iva was a long-time resident of the Philipsburg Towers from 1978 – 2008.
She is survived by three nieces: Beverly Owens of Clearfield, Shirley (Owens) Chamberlain of Buena Park, California, and Linda Locket of Woodland; and two nephews: Geynet Owens and Russell Owens of Woodland; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Lloyd, Lester, and Merrill Owens; and two sisters: Lydia Shaw and Vada Varner. She was the last member of her generation.
Her body will be taken to the Humanity Gift Registry at Philadelphia.
Iva requested no funeral service be held. She remembered you and wished that you would remember her as she was at her 100th birthday party. You were all her family and she was so pleased to see you there.
Contributions may be given to the Nurses’ Alumni Association of Clearfield Hospital Memorial Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
