A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
Come take an easy walk and learn all about Parker Dam before it became a park. From middle of nowhere to somewhere we gather to meet family and friends, this area has changed over the years. If the water’s not too high, we will cross the spillway rocks and complete a loop around the lake.
Lumbering History: 8:00 p.m.- Campground Amphitheater
The old-time lumbering days are gone, but you can learn about the hard work that was done by many a woodhick. Observe how trees were felled and how the “rural” logs made their way to the towns and cities of our expanding nation
Sept. 4
Animals on the Beach: 3:00 p.m.- Beach House steps
Most of the time, the animals in our Environmental Education Classroom stay put. However, on special occasions, some of them have been known to visit our beach to let folks see them. If you’re interested in meeting of few of these interesting critters, then be sure to attend.
Bat Watch: 8:00 p.m.- near Campground Dump Station
Bats are animals that get a bad reputation, but without them, we would be in trouble. Learn about these highly adapted creatures, some problems they face, and how we can help them. We’ll head to the bat boxes to watch the bats that emerge for their nighttime hunt for insects.
Sept. 5
Annual Woodhick Games: 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.- Woodhick Games Field
A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
Test your traditional Woodhick skills against other amateur woodhicks in: cross-cut sawing, log rolling, shoe pitching, seed spitting, and doo-doo dropping. Best score will win you an event; best overall score will give you the coveted title of Woodhick or Woodchick of the Year. There’s even a Junior division (12 and under). Register at the table in the grove above the cabin road so that you can participate in the Woodhick Games. Be sure to come to the awards presentation at 7 p.m. in the Campground Amphitheater.
Arrival of Smokey Bear: 1:00 p.m.- Woodhick Games Field
Once again, Smokey Bear will be in the park to greet the Woodhick competitors, their families, and their fans. Be sure to go up and say hello to our furry, forest watch-man. He’s always glad to make new friends.
Woodhick Demonstrations: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.- Woodhick Games Field
Come watch as woodhicks demonstrate their various skills with the tools and techniques of years past. You’ll see the camp cook demonstrate how the cooks completed their task of feeding the many hungry woodsmen, and the blacksmith, as he shows his skills with iron and tells his tall tales.
Woodhick Games Awards Presentation: 7:00 p.m.- Campground Amphitheater
The competitors have given it their all, now its time to reward them for their efforts. The winner of each event, in both Adult and Junior divisions, will be awarded their prizes. Then, we will crown the 2010 Woodhick, Woodchick, Jr. Woodhick, and Jr. Woodchick of the Year.

Wild Edible Hike: 2:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
How much do you know about the seasonal buffet that surrounds you each time you stroll outside. Many of our native plants can be used for sustenance. You’ll learn about several of them, including how to identify and use them properly.
Note: The Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum at Parker Dam State Park will be open to the public on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, September 4-6, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps and the tremendous accomplishments of their work that still remain today.
