James H. Murphy, 92, of Osceola Mills died Tuesday at his home.
Born on Oct. 10, 1917, he was the son of the late Patrick and Ella (Poorman) Murphy. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Osceola Mills.
He was also a member of the VFW Post 5020 and the American Legion, both of Osceola Mills. In addition, he held membership at the BPO Elk #1173, Philipsburg.
Mr. Murphy was a World War II Army Veteran. He was retired from the former R.D. Jones, Ramey.
He married Elizabeth Marie “Betty” (Vail) Murphy on Feb. 17, 1953 in Osceola Mills. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2009.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and John Murphy and a sister, Dorothy Kephart.
Mr. Murphy was survived by two daughters, Shirley L. Coleman and her husband, Andrew of Osceola Mills and Patty Prestash and her husband, Deacon Dennis M. of Sandy Ridge. He was survived by two sisters, Kathryn Christoff of Cayahoga Falls, OH and Eleanor Miller of Sandy Ridge.
He was also survived by four grandchildren, Meredith Sprankle, Natalie Coleman, Andrea Rafferty and Dennis Prestash, Jr.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Pastor Robert Horgas officiating. Interment will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
No public visitation will be held. The Heath Funeral Home, Osceola Mills, is serving the family.
