DUBOIS – The following information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of Aug. 23.
All work is weather dependent.
Various traffic pattern changes will take place the week of August 23 and motorists should be alert for these changes. On Monday, the contractor will be paving Grove Avenue, Prospect Street, Miller Avenue, and a section of the new Hospital Avenue. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Hospital Avenue will be closed between Prospect Street and the hospital’s main entrance.
All traffic on Hospital Avenue, including traffic to DRMC and the Medical Arts building, will be detoured. For the detour, traffic will be placed onto a newly constructed section of Hospital Avenue and then detoured onto Prospect Street, Mundorf Avenue, through the hospital parking lot and back onto Hospital Avenue.
From 6:00 p.m. Monday until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, the contractor will be excavating for the new roadway. The contractor will then pave this portion of Hospital Avenue on Tuesday during the daytime. After the new pavement has sufficiently cooled, the detour will be lifted and Hospital Avenue will be opened to traffic. Lifting the detour and re-opening the road will occur late in the day on Tuesday. Drivers who are traveling through this area on non-hospital related business are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Other work includes: Seeding and mulching various areas on the project. Installing sidewalk at various locations on the project. Installing a waterline on South Main Street between Grove Avenue and Dixon Avenue. Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone. The overall project will re-align Hospital Avenue with Dixon Avenue. Work includes roadway widening, new traffic signals, and improved access to DRMC.
The job is scheduled to run through late November of this year. SET, Inc. of Lowellville, Ohio, is the contractor on the $4.2 million project. PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
