Police report a commercial vehicle crash that occurred on Monday at 8:30 p.m. on Intersate 80 in Sandy Township. A vehicle driven by Eric Sword was traveling west on the I-80 80, Exit 97, west-bound on-ramp. The vehicle was travelling too fast on the curve of the ramp and the load shifted the trailer, causing the vehicle to flip onto its driver side. The vehicle then slid 161 feet on its side before coming to rest in the right lane of state Route 80 at the intersection with the on-ramp. Sword was not injured in the crash.
Police report a three vehicle accident that occurred on Monday at 6:52 a.m. on state Route 255 in Huston Township. All three vehicles were traveling south on SR 255. A Plymouth Neon was stopped due to being involved in a crash just moments prior and a Toyota Corolla driven by Brad Anderson was slowing to a stop, when Brian Wolfel failed to bring his Ford Taurus to a stop. The Taurus struck the rear of the Corolla with its front end. After the Corolla was struck, the force pushed the vehicle into the rear of the Neon. All three units came to rest upon the south bound lane of SR 255. No injuries were reported in the crash.
Police report a hit and run that occurred on Monday at 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 80 in Pine Creek Township. The collision occurred as a freightliner was traveling east in the left lane of I-80 east, at which time an aluminum truck wheel fell from an unidentified vehicle and bounced into the freightliner’s path of travel. The operator of the freightliner was unable to avoid the wheel, and the wheel subsequently stuck the left side of the vehicle. Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed this incident or have any information concerning the origin of the aluminum truck wheel to please contact police at 814-371-4652.
