Donald W. Barger, 81 of Clearfield died Monday at the Clearfield Hospital. He was the last surviving member of his generation.Â
Born on Sept. 8, 1928 in Clearfield, he was the son of Orin and Katherine (Singer) Barger. He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield. He had retired from Kurtz Brothers after nearly 30 years of service.
Mr. Barger was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Barger is survived by two children, Michael Barger and his companion, Tina Nestlerode and Diane Sunderland and her companion, Dale Porter, all of Clearfield.
He’s survived by four grandchildren, Steven Sunderland and his wife, Amy; Angie Rish and her husband, Mark; Matt Barger and his wife, Vicki; and Jamie Barger. He’s also survived by six great grandchildren, Marissa, Cody, Payton, Sammy, Paige and C.J.Â
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris E. (Graham) Barger, whom he married on Jan. 15, 1951. She died May 22, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Kitty Griel, Nin Barger, Jack Barger and Pearl Smith.
At the request of Mr. Barger, there will not be a public viewing. A private service will be held at the residence at the convenience of the family.
Also, there will be a public memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday at the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield with the Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Â Friends will be received in the church from 6 p.m. until the hour of services.
