CLEARFIELD – Police arrested two Michigan men in a local hotel for possession of a controlled substance.
Lawrence Township Police, along with the Michigan State Police, conducted a joint drug investigation on July 15 after the Michigan State Police received a call from an informant who said there were two men staying in a hotel and were about to receive illegal substances through the mail. Police then received information that the package was to arrive on July 19.
Once the package arrived, hotel management called the Lawrence Township Police. Police, along with the K-9 Unit from the Pennsylvania State Police, secured the package and the dogs indicated the package had some type of illegal substance inside. Police then instructed the hotel management to call the man to whom the package was addressed and have him pick it up.
The man came to the front desk and picked up the package, at which time he was detained by police. Police notified District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr., who approved a search warrant. The warrant was then presented to Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins, who signed the search warrant for the package and the hotel room to be searched.
After obtaining the search warrant, police opened the package and found 120 methadone pills inside. In the hotel room, police found a handgun and some additional pills.
Upon conclusion of the search, police filed charges against the two men from Michigan for possession of a controlled substance. They were arraigned before Hawkins and placed in the Clearfield County Jail on $50,000 straight bail. Their names were unavailable at the time of this posting.
Both the Lawrence Township Police and the Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation, including other individuals who may be involved.Â
