RUSH TOWNSHIP – Three passengers were transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment following an alcohol-related accident Saturday night in Rush Township, Centre County, the Philipsburg-based State Police reported.
Police said an 11-year-old Philipsburg girl who was ejected from the vehicle suffered “severe” injuries. They said injury severity was currently unknown for both the 9 and 13-year-old boy passengers, also of Philipsburg.
Police said the girl wasn’t using safety restraints but believed both boys were wearing their seatbelts. All three were transported by ambulance to the MNMC for medical treatment.
In addition, police said the vehicle’s operator, a 49-year-old Philipsburg woman, was arrested for driving under the influence. They said several additional charges are to be filed.
According to the accident report, the woman was traveling east along state Route 504 near Honeysuckle Lane. While negotiating a left curve, the woman reportedly traveled slightly off the roadway and onto the berm.
Police said she overcompensated her steering in an attempt to regain control of her vehicle. As a result, police said her vehicle traveled sideways off of the right side of the roadway.
At that time, police said the woman’s vehicle struck an embankment and overturned. They indicated the 11-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle came to a rest on its wheels and was partially on the roadway and faced southwest.
Police said the woman reportedly wasn’t wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident. They said she suffered minor injuries.
Police were assisted by the Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services and Reliance Volunteer Fire Department.
