Russel G. Shaw, 86 of West Decatur, passed away on July 17, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on June 28, 1924, the son of the late Newton and Gertrude (Shimmel) Shaw.
He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church of West Decatur; a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Salt Lake City in the Pacific Theatre; he was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Louis Jenkins Post #3450 and the BPO Elks #1173, both of Philipsburg; a member of the Clearfield American Legion, John Lewis Shade Post #6 and a member of the Capenter’s Union, Local #1333 of Altoona.
He was the owner/operator of the R.G. Shaw Construction Company and a general contractor. He later worked for the North American Refractory Company in Curwensville until retirement.
On July 30, 1965 he married Doloris McTigue Libeatori Shaw, who survives him at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Frankalee Nixon, son-in-law Harry J. Ghaner; sisters Eleanor Crago and Naomi and Esther Shaw; and brothers Edward, Cecil, Howard, Cletus, Harold and Donald Shaw.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Phyllis M. Ghaner of West Decatur and Shawn M. Shaw of West Decatur; son Franklin G. Shaw of Worthington, OH; sisters Jean Dixon of York and Marie Garito and her husband Dominic of Clearfield; grandchildren Heather Ireland and her husband Christopher of Shawville, Harry J. Ghaner Jr. and his wife Diane of Clearfield, Ian R. Shaw of Worthington, OH and Leigha Harmon of Columbus, OH; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on July 21 from 5-8 p.m. and July 22 from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. An Elks memorial service will be held Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home.
