Big Third Inning Sends Four-Leaf Clover 9-10 All-stars Past Clearfield 16-5

BIGLER – Four-Leaf Clover scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to turn a tie game into a 16-5 Mercy Rule victory over the Clearfield Little League 9-and-10 All-Stars in a District 5 Northern Tier winner’s bracket semifinal Tuesday evening.

Clearfield had gone ahead for the second time at 5-2 when Matt Collins socked a three-run homer in the top of the second, but Four-Leaf Clover drew even with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Led by winning pitcher Dylan Confer’s single and two doubles, the hosts collected 12 hits off of three Clearfield pitchers, who walked seven. The losers also had nine errors.

Thayne Morgan, Malachi Dixson and Micah Heichel had a pair of singles apiece and Zane Morgan drove in three runs for Four-Leaf Clover, which will have the home-field advantage again Thursday in the winner’s bracket final against Philipsburg-Osceola.

Collins and Noah Rumsky each had two of Clearfield’s seven hits off Confer. Jesse Thompson logged the final two outs for Four-Leaf Clover.

Clearfield (1-1) will welcome Curwensville (1-1) to McNamee Field for an elimination bracket quarterfinal Wednesday at 6 p.m.
