CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Rotary club announced their newest initiative to purchase new street lighting for the town. The Club has sponsored the Christmas Lighting project since the 1980s including the purchase, maintenance, putting up and taking down of the street lights with the help of the Curwensville Rescue Hose & Ladder Co and their ladder truck. The project has been funded throughout the years by donations from the Rotary Club, local businesses, clubs and individuals.
The time has come to replace all of the lights with newer ones. The opportunity now exists to update the lights, install LED bulbs that will last for many years and reduce electric bills by 70 percent. The new lighting theme will consist of large snowflakes alternating with red and white fabric banners designed with snowflakes and “Home for the Holidays” wording. The project will include lights and banners for all of State street and parts of Filbert street. The four lights at the center intersection of town will each be a cascade of snowflakes. Lights go up before Thanksgiving and are taken down just after Christmas, however, som consideration is being given to leaving the snowflakes up for the entire winter season.
The total cost of the project is $12,500 and the Rotary Club has begun to request donations to the Christmas Lighting Fund early to help fund the project. Businesses will have the opportunity to sponsor a light or banner to be placed on the pole at their location. The cost of one light is $368 and a banner is $60. Any monetary donation will be appreciated. The names of donors will be listed at a central location in town.
Rotary Club members will have pictures and information for anyone interested in donating to the fund or in sponsoring a light or banner. To make a donation or for more information, please contact a Rotary member or call upcoming President, Shaina Franson at 236-2872. Shown in the picture is Sheila Williams, Rotary member and Bill Arnold, Sales Representative of Rileigh’s Outdoor Decor.
